Day 4 of 30 – Old Australian Farmhouse

Old house

“Old Man’s House”

8″ x 10″

Oil on Board

Day 4 of the Leslie Saeta Challenge running at her Slices of Life blog.

Well and truly back home now and back into the swing of things … having a clean up day and preparing for the new year ahead.

This painting is of the old man’s house who lived across from me when I was kid growing up in Upwey in the Dandenong Ranges.

Back then it was very much a bush location and it seemed that everything was overgrown. The old man’s house across the road was no exception … the bush was starting to reclaim it.

We were never really certain if someone lived there or not … though we did see an occasional glimpse of him and occasionally the light would turn on.

I often wonder today about that old man and what his life was like. As a kid you don’t appreciate that someone might be old and lonely and need help.

As my theme for this challenge is ‘At Home In Australia’ I wanted to highlight not only the happy life many of us have but also the lives lived by many less fortunate.

Do you have older folks living near by who are all alone? Why not drop in today and say hi and see if you can help them in anyway.

Note: If you want to follow along each day of the 30 day challenge then enter your email on the right hand side where it says ‘Get Blog Updates’. You will then need to confirm your email. Once you do you will then get an email notification each time I post a new painting to the blog.

What a nice theme for 30 in 30. I think the painting of this house is perfect for the imagination to wander. It holds a true mysterious feeling. It’s true, we should all think of those old and especially alone. The towns that I live near hold many of those souls. In a smallish town, it seems they all take turns looking out for one another..but sometimes you find one that is so introvert – much like this neighbor you describe. Paint on!

Thanks for dropping by Pattie and for your kind words. I have to say I love paintings that tell a story and hold a little mystery so I am glad you saw this in the painting. Now onto day 5 🙂

Really love this one. Love the earthy colors and the hint of mystery about the house. My favorite so far of the 8 completed.
