Monet’s Gardens Giverny

Monet’s Gardens Giverny

Back in 2012 I had the good fortune to visit Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny. It was an amazing experience and resulted in me taking hundreds of photos many of which you can see in the video above.

At the time I didn’t really have the skills to paint many of the subjects as well as I would have liked.

Today though, while I am still learning and developing my skills, I feel better equipped to tackle some of these.

So look out for my interpretations of some of the most iconic subjects in history coming up soon,.

Painting Mary River, Kenilworth

Painting Mary River, Kenilworth

After the recent rains sparked by Cyclone Debbie my wife and I ventured out to Kenilworth for a couple of days camping. Of course any trip to Kenilworth requires a visit to the Mary River.

This photo is taken from around the corner from the township:

I loved the composition of this photo when I looked at it again later on.

The strong dark shadow on the right hand side and the warm tones in the foreground lead the eye into the middle distance where the river winds its way through the valley.

So I decided to paint this one and potentially enter it into the Kenilworth Art Competition run by the Kenilworth Arts Council in September.

Here is an early stage of my painting. Its a larger oil painting than I normally do and I’ve been enjoying the freedom of the extra space:

This is just the rough block in stage where the key thing is too make sure I have the values structure of the painting right. I want to make sure there is layers and depth in the painting.

Happy with the initial block in I then proceeded to tighten the block in up a little:

You can see its starting to take shape. A big key to making this painting work I think is going to be capturing the sunlight at the top and edges of the trees and having rich shadows and dark’s as a counter balance.

So far I am happy with the start I have made with it. There is a lot of work to go and I shall post updates on this painting as I go.

It’s been ages since I have posted anything on my blog here so I decided it was time to do so 🙂

Back in October 2015 my wife and I moved from Geelong to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Primarily for the weather and to enjoy a different lifestyle. We both love the combination of the beach and the bush so the Sunshine Coast seemed ideal to start our new life.

Selling our house in Geelong took longer than planned so for a good six months my art studio was packed up which meant not a lot of painting. Everything came to a halt while we waited for the house to find its next owner. It finally happened and we moved in October 2015.

Then it took another six months to find a new home for us to buy up here.

Eventually in May 2016 we finally got settled and I could set up my art studio again. That’s a long time between serious painting.

Once we settled in I started to rebuild Moore Art School with a focus on the online side of things. I’m happy to say it is growing significantly over the last six months with more than 10,000 new students joining us for our courses in that time.

And having a larger studio has enabled me to get back to creating new learn to paint courses such as our recently released Colour Mixing Course. I also launched the new Learn To Paint Club with monthly projects and a new range of DVD’s.

In addition to that I am about to launch a new program for artists teaching them how to build a full time income out of their art by becoming what I call an ArtPreneur. Our first course will be about How To Sell Art Online.

A week ago I did my first art class up this way at Gympie:

So I have been super busy and things have been going great BUT …

There has been one thing missing. I haven’t been doing enough painting to sell through this site and other online galleries I have art listed in. And I certainly haven’t been updating this site at all.

From May on though that all changes.

I am going to start to divert a larger percentage of my time to painting works for entering exhibitions, art shows and for sale.

One of the first things I am going to do is get back to creating small affordable works for ebay and listing those regularly.

The other thing I will be doing is creating series of work and then releasing those as an online exhibition several times per year to showcase and have available for purchase for my regular followers.

And in May I am going to start getting back to having an Art giveaway every month.

There are some exciting times ahead as I continue to grow and develop my art career.

Thanks for reading.

Sometimes its enough to make your head explode.

Every Aussie lad growing up loves cricket.

And we all love to beat the Poms … especially when it comes to the Ashes. Sorry England we won’t mention the Ashes 2014 cricket season 🙂

Inspired by Australia’s 5 nil victory in the Ashes Aussie backyards, and out on the streets, are filled with young hopefuls who dream of one day representing Australia in a victorious Ashes series.

In fact right now the lads next door are busy with an intense game of backyard tippity wicket … in between snags and beer of course.

Okay sorry England … looks like I did mention it after all … haha.

Day 18 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

School holidays can seem to drag on for ever.

Fun at first but there is only so much fun you can have in the backyard. That’s why when we were kids growing up in bush we would head off early in the morning on grand adventures.

A lot of the day would be spent walking up the creeks and yabbying. A little imagination and you could keep yourself entertained for the whole day.

No wonder we would often be out until dusk.

Day 17 of 30 – Summer Holidays

Day 17 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

There are some memories from your childhood that are vivid.

One for me was summer holidays when we went on a trip to Hanging Rock. We had seen the film Picnic At Hanging Rock and were keen to see if we could solve the mystery. Which of course we did not.

This style of romantic painting though reminds me of a bygone error from the time the story was originally set around 1900.

At Days End

Day 16 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

Another scorching hot day … reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in the Dandenongs.

We would head out to play no matter how hot it was … and on a hot balmy night as the sun was getting low Mum would be calling out to us.

We were always trying to squeeze just another half hour of play time at days end.

One day son all of this will be yours …

Well unfortunately my Dad didn’t leave me the family farm … but he left me with something better … a creative soul.

This is another painting in the romantic impressionist genre.

I love paintings that let you peek into someone else’s world … almost like eavesdropping on a quiet moment between this Father and Son as the take in the view across the valley.
