Day 20 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

We all need time alone … quite time spent in quiet contemplation.

The world we live today is so much more complex. There are so many more pressures, time, deadlines, traffic, appointments, Facebook et al.

Sometimes its enough to make your head explode.

Heading back to nature in the bush for a walk or down by the beach … some quiet time alone … now that is the way to let it all go and recharge the mind, body and soul.

Every Aussie lad growing up loves cricket.

And we all love to beat the Poms … especially when it comes to the Ashes. Sorry England we won’t mention the Ashes 2014 cricket season :)

Inspired by Australia’s 5 nil victory in the Ashes Aussie backyards, and out on the streets, are filled with young hopefuls who dream of one day representing Australia in a victorious Ashes series.

In fact right now the lads next door are busy with an intense game of backyard tippity wicket … in between snags and beer of course.

Okay sorry England … looks like I did mention it after all … haha.

Day 18 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

School holidays can seem to drag on for ever.

Fun at first but there is only so much fun you can have in the backyard. That’s why when we were kids growing up in bush we would head off early in the morning on grand adventures.

A lot of the day would be spent walking up the creeks and yabbying. A little imagination and you could keep yourself entertained for the whole day.

No wonder we would often be out until dusk.

Day 17 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

There are some memories from your childhood that are vivid.

One for me was summer holidays when we went on a trip to Hanging Rock. We had seen the film Picnic At Hanging Rock and were keen to see if we could solve the mystery. Which of course we did not.

This style of romantic painting though reminds me of a bygone error from the time the story was originally set around 1900.

Day 16 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

Another scorching hot day … reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in the Dandenongs.

We would head out to play no matter how hot it was … and on a hot balmy night as the sun was getting low Mum would be calling out to us.

We were always trying to squeeze just another half hour of play time at days end.

Day 15 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

One day son all of this will be yours …

Well unfortunately my Dad didn’t leave me the family farm … but he left me with something better … a creative soul.

This is another painting in the romantic impressionist genre.

I love paintings that let you peek into someone else’s world … almost like eavesdropping on a quiet moment between this Father and Son as the take in the view across the valley.

Day 14 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

My Dad used to love making kites and flying them.

We would often fly them down on the foreshore at Fisho’s beach in Torquay.

His favourite were the fighting kites … one year he made this huge kite which was quickly dubbed ‘Big Bird’.

I will never forget the time he was lifted off the ground a meter or so from flying ‘Big Bird’

Picking Flowers

Day 13 of 30 – Picking Flowers

Picking Flowers

SOLD

Day 13 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

Over the last few days I have mentioned the fact that the 30 day challenge has led me to wanting to develop larger paintings that have even more of a story to them.

Still working on theme of ‘At Home In Australia’ I have been experimenting with more of a romantic style of impressionist paintings.

The inspiration for these has come from Renoirs landscapes, and Monet as well as the Australian artist Robert Hagan.

In this painting, even though I have not painted the house in keeping with my theme, the mother and daughter are out in their front yard picking flowers on a hot Australian summers day.

I love this style of painting and plan to pursue it further so keep an eye out for more.

Dunkeld Homestead

Day 12 of 30 – Dunkeld Homestead

Dunkeld Homestead

“Dunkeld Homestead”

8″ x 10″

Oil on Board

SOLD

Day 12 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

Yesterday I mentioned that the challenge had led me to wanting to paint slightly larger paintings that tell more of a story.

So over the last few days I have been busy experimenting with a variation of these paintings … more on the romantic side. So look out for them starting tomorrow.

This painting is off a homestead that I came across in Dunkeld in the Southern Grampians.

Dunkeld is a popular place for travellers to stop and has some dramatic backdrops of the southern end of the Grampians region.

This old homestead looked like it had been there almost as long as the Grampians themselves. I was really drawn to the random haphazard way the garden had grown over time almost covering the house from view.

Yesterdays Farmhouse

Day 11 of 30 – Yesterdays Farmhouse

SOLD

(Auction starts at 8PM AEST)

Day 11 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.

Well day 11 already … one third of the challenge gone which means one month is gone also.

A funny thing happened to me along the way to the end of the challenge :) Painting all of these small houses and the like has led to a strong desire to paint larger paintings along the same subject line … but with more of a story to them. Adding in people and life and movement to enhance the story. So for the last few days I have been fooling around with some work along these lines.

We will get to them in the next few days.

Today though the painting is titled “Yesterdays Farmhouse”. I spotted this abandon early settlers cottage when driving out in the country the other week.

Well and truly abandoned but I didn’t think much of it.

Then a few nights ago on TV Bruce Parrish was doing a documentary on Brazil and the Amazon. He visited a place called Fordlandia which was set up as a city to supply rubber to the Ford factories so that rich white people back then had tyres for their shiny new auto-mobiles. They built a whole city there right in the jungle with hospitals and everything you can think of.

That was until they no longer needed it.

One day they just all packed up and left.

They left behind them all of these abandoned stinking old factories and industrial equipment to sit and rot in the jungle.

Now don’t get me wrong … some things like this early settlers cottage though abandoned should be left as it is for history sake.

But Ford need to clean up their shit after them in my humble opinion :)
